Magna, Rotherham (20 mins on M1)

magnarotherham

Explore the four main forces of nature: earth, air, fire and water at the UK’s 1st science adventure centre set in the Templeborough steelworks just a few outside Sheffield. It’s huge, it’s intimidating, it’s dark and in truth, it’s really quite eerie – but providing you or your kids don’t scare too easily – it’s fantastic freak of nature. Set in this cavernous space are 4 pavilions where you can explore the elements, earth, air, fire and water and have fun firing giant water canon, launch rockets, board an airship, spin in a gyroscopic chair. The ‘fire’ level can be a little unsettling for the under-fives and those same little folks might be a little disturbed by the wonderfully noisy industrial bangs and crashes (courtesy of the Magna sound-system) but everybody of all ages will be delighted with the ‘air’ level where one can sample the force of a hurricane and tornado through a wind-simulator. Kids will also love the wickedly extended ‘water’ area (so long as you take a change of clothing!) Website. Back.
